Linval Freeman

Director

Linval Freeman has served several clients across geographies in both audit and advisory for more than 30 years. He obtained a Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Technology (UTECH) in 1975 and is a Chartered Certified Accountant since 1984. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica (FCA) and Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and a Justice of the Peace for Kingston and St. Andrew.

Mr. Freeman is very knowledgeable about current and emerging international accounting issues and has assisted the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica for the period 2002-2012 in organizing training seminars and in particular provide training relating to the implementation of International Financial Reporting Standards in Jamaica. He has also participated in organizing and delivering training on auditing standards on behalf of the Public Accountancy Board, of which he has been a member since 2007.

Over the years, Linval has served many Committees including the FCA’s Accounting Standards and CPD Committees since 2007, Chairman of UTECH’s Audit Committee, the Audit Committees of Bureau of Standards and Students Loan Bureau for the years 2005-2007 and Chairman of the Finance Committee of the United Church of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. He is also a member of the Rotary Club of Kingston since 1997 where he served as President between July 2018 and June 2019 and an executive member of the Dinthill Technical High School Alumni Association Jamaica 1991-2019 and serves as Executive Member of the Dinthill Trust Fund since 1996.

Linval served as Director and Assurance Partner in the Jamaica office of Ernst & Young Caribbean (EY) between 2003 and 2018. During his tenure, the partnership grew from a two partner firm to a five partner firm and the staff numbers moved from 10 in 2003 to over 100 in 2018. During the first 10 years of the practice, Linval was instrumental in the establishment of the Advisory Service Line and the growth and development of the Assurance Service Line. He retired from the Partnership on 31 July 2018. Prior to joining EY, he spent a total of 21 years with PricewaterhouseCoopers over two periods; 1978-1982 and 1986-2003 in the Audit Practice and served as the first Director in charge of its then newly established Internal Audit Practice in 2001

Linval was also employed to the National Investment Bank of Jamaica (now merged with Development Bank of Jamaica) between 1982 and 1986 serving as Senior Internal Auditor for two years and Senior Accountant for two years.

In 2019, Linval was appointed as Director and Chairman of the Audit Committees of Canopy Insurance Limited, Sygnus Real Estate Finance Limited and Sygnus Credit Investments Limited.
